Our History

From a single Filipino initiative in 2010 to a region-wide platform spanning ASEAN and Asia, the journey of The Science Diplomats has been shaped by partnership, persistence, and purpose.

2010· Philippines

Science Diplomacy founded by Glenn Banaguas through Climate Smart Philippines: Science for Service.

2016· ASEAN

Replicated to the ASEAN region through the US-ASEAN Science and Technology Fellowship.

2017· Batangas

First ASEAN Science Diplomats Assembly — foundational capacity-building.

2018· Davao

Second Assembly — cross-border collaboration on the Food–Energy–Water–Biodiversity nexus.

2019· Manila

Third Assembly — infrastructure, climate adaptation, and sustainability financing.

2020–2025· Virtual

Pandemic-era continuity through online training and the Der Forscher Lecture Series.

2021· Asia

Broader expansion into Asian Science Diplomacy.
